Would you like to set up your own business and like help looking at what may be involved?

Setting up a new business can sometimes feel like a full time job in itself. As well as the numerous issues you will have to consider, there will be many positives and negatives connected to the type of service / product you wish to provide? Book a short series of coaching sessions and together we will look at all the relevant issues before prioritising, planning, and implementing your very own business.

Some of the areas you will have to consider include:

  • Premises
  • Sole trader / limited Company
  • Business Name / domain name on internet
  • Business bank account
  • Business plans and budgets
  • Managing your financial accounts
  • Technical equipment
  • Marketing, sales and networking
  • Legal requirements such as insurances, tax, VAT etc.
  • Training courses
  • Stationery
  • Suppliers
  • Employing Staff
  • Plus much more

During your coaching sessions we can also explore what type of customer service you will provide. As a small business you have to provide the customer with better, more personal service in order to compete with the larger, more established providers in the marketplace. You also have to look to the future and develop ways to keep your customers coming back year after year.

When a problem does occur, take advantage of the opportunity to build not only customer satisfaction, but customer loyalty. You may want to look more specifically at areas such as problem solving, what not to say, dealing with angry customers, or customers who do not pay. What ever it is we will put a strategy in place for dealing with any eventuality so that you are completely prepared for what ever challenges that come your way.

Would you like to develop your business to the next level?

Let’s assume you have breezed through the start up phase of your small business with flying colours, and you are now wondering what’s next. You want to continue to develop your business but you’re not quite sure what the best way to do this would be.

The answer to that question will depend on what type of business you are running, your available resources, and how much time, money, and effort you wish to expend.

  • Perhaps you would like to expand your business and have additional premises.
  • Maybe you wish to offer additional services / products to what you currently provide
  • You may even be thinking of expanding on a more global scale
  • Or your work load has increased so much that you now have to consider employing staff

As a small business grows, it will not only need to hire new people to perform certain functions, but it will need to keep track of these employees as well. You cannot possibly do everything yourself so the time may come when you need to employ Supervisors / Managers to perform specific roles within your organisation.

The daily tasks and duties will become more defined and as the boss you will be required to recognize when new needs emerge and to hire the appropriate personnel to address those needs.  Have you ever noticed that even though many small businesses fail every year very few of them are franchises? Why do these franchise owners tend to succeed when others do not? The answer is simply that franchises come with a ready-made management system already in place. All these entrepreneurs have to do is open their franchise manual and they can read step-by-step instructions describing how to operate their business successfully.

Book a series of coaching and together we will look at issues that are unique to your business enterprise. I will help you to understand the best practice for growing your business, as well as looking at what you cannot say or do to employees / customers unless you want to risk discrediting your business or worse still facing a law suit.

Do you want to be an effective boss of a well managed business?

  • Does your day at the office seem to be filled with the completion of trivial tasks?
  • Are you able to train and develop your new and existing employees?
  • Do you coordinate the work of your staff or are they left to complete their tasks without guidance?
  • Do you visit with customers on a regular basis?
  • Are you still involved in the product development aspect of your business?
  • Do you attend business seminars and courses?

If you answered no to any of the above questions then you may want to take better advantage of the authority you have to delegate.

Book a series of coaching sessions and discover what makes a good boss and how to drive out fear in your employees, and harvest trust and respect. Remember that your employees are not robots. They do not respond endlessly to commands and perform at their peak 24 hours a day.

Employees are people with their own personal issues and they will not be happy people if you expect too much from them. If the people that work for you are doing a reasonably good job, let them know that you appreciate their efforts. Praise and encourage them, give them more responsibility, or even let them off work a few hours early once in a while and don’t be surprised if their reasonable good efforts turn into exceptional ones as a result.

When you take the time to recognize and reward your employees for their hard work and accomplishments, they will reward you with higher quality and more efficient output. Never forget that even though you are the boss it is important to maintain a ‘team mentality’. The fact is that all businesses, regardless of their size, need good management. Effective management is the key to the successful establishment and subsequent growth of any business.

The only way you will ever find success and the freedom that comes with it is to develop policies and procedures that allow your business to operate so smoothly that it can almost run itself. How else will you be able to take that fishing trip or Caribbean cruise you have been dreaming about?

The aim of leadership should be to help people do a better job. In your coaching sessions we will address a variety of characteristics, traits, and attitudes that are prevalent among executives that are viewed as “good bosses” by their employees. Some of these include:

  • Including all levels of employees in decision making
  • Concentrating on the company’s mission, not just its ability to make money
  • Demonstrating the value of learning new skills
  • Learn how to take advantage of opportunities to delegate tasks as this is one of the most important aspects of leadership.
  • Discover if you are holding too tightly to the reins of control in your small business

We can also look at other aspects of managing your staff, such as:

  • How to get the very best out of your staff by recognising their different abilities, capabilities, and aspirations.
  • How to be assertive and get what you want without being perceived as controlling and dictatorial.
  • How to gain the trust and respect of your employees, and how to quickly lose it.
  • Learn how to take advantage of opportunities to delegate tasks as this is one of the most important aspects of leadership. .
  • Discover if you are holding too tightly to the reins of control in your small business.
