Is coaching like counselling or other talking therapies?

A Counsellor deals with the circumstances of a person’s past by analysing the root cause and impact of emotional and behavioural patterns in a person’s character.

Clients are helped to come to terms with past events and look at new ways of coping with life events. Life coaching will acknowledge and respect these issues but will focus more on a person’s future and how they can get from where they are now to where they want to be and have the life they want and deserve.

What do sessions consist of?

Session’s last for 45 minutes and are booked in blocks of 4, 5, or 6. From the first session, a unique individual package will be created to suit your specific requirements. To keep up momentum you will need to have between 2-3 sessions each month.

Between sessions I will provide a 15 minute follow up telephone call to see how your action plans are coming along, help with any problems you may have encountered, and keep you focused on your goals.

You will leave each session with a personal action plan to help move you forward toward your desired goal.

You will be given any useful information or materials that are relevant to your situation, and you will also have a progress sheet to complete for discussion at your next session. The progress sheet serves as an ongoing record of your achievements and can also highlight any obstacles you have come up against.

Using these methods enables us to stay focused on the issue/s in question and make the best use of our time together. We will conduct regular reviews of your progress so that you can decide how beneficial the process is to you, and if you wish to continue with further coaching.

How and where does coaching take place?

Coaching can either take place in a face-to-face meeting or over the telephone. All telephone calls are pre-booked for a time that will fit best into your day. I also have some appointments of an evening or even on a Saturday, but these are popular, and therefore limited.

If coaching is by telephone then make sure you are in a private place and you are not going to be disturbed. If you prefer face-to-face coaching and live within 20 miles of Wirral, then I will either arrange for us to meet in an office building that has a comfortable quite room for us to use, or a good quality venue or hotel lounge (without music if possible) where we can be comfortable, private and left alone.

Please note, there will be additional charges to cover travelling expenses, and the time I spend ‘out of my office’. Contact me for a price for your location.

How long is coaching likely to last?

For as long as you like but to really see some amazing results it is recommended that you start with between 6 – 12 sessions so that we can work through the mine field that has previously prevented you from reaching your full potential.

What are the benefits of telephone coaching?

For maximum flexibility and convenience my service is largely carried out by telephone. You will save the time and travelling expenses involved in getting to appointments.

All calls are pre-booked for a time that will fit best into your day. I also have some appointments of an evening or even on a Saturday, but these are popular and therefore limited. It’s up to you to decide what would be most convenient for you.

Finally, telephone coaching is slightly less expensive than face-to-face, and the problem of geographical distance between you and your coach is also avoided.

Which areas do you serve?

I will travel up to 20 miles from Wirral but there will be additional charges to cover travelling expenses, and the time I spend ‘out of my office’. Contact me for a price for your location.

Alternatively, you may prefer to travel to me so I would arrange to coach you in a quiet public area of a good quality venue or hotel lounge where we can enjoy a tea / coffee, relax, and concentrate solely on you!

How many sessions are needed?

This will depend on what you want to achieve through the coaching process. However, you could expect to have, on average, between 6 and 12 sessions. These sessions will ideally be spaced at weekly or fortnightly intervals so that momentum can be maintained.

Peoples thought patterns, values, beliefs, and behaviours take a life time to develop, so it is recommended that your first session is a double appointment (1 ½ hours) and you pre-book a further three 45 minute sessions. This will help us to establish a new inner foundation for you to build on so that we can go on to challenge and replace anything that has previously held you back from achieving your desires.

Once we have completed the first four sessions we will have a good idea of how much you have already achieved and how far you may still have to travel. This is going to be different for each person and will depend on the complexity of the issue/s being dealt with, as well as the amount of effort you are willing to make to achieve your end goals. You get out of life what you put into it so “if you do what you’ve always done, then you will get what you have always had”.

For life coaching to work you will have to make some changes, step out of your comfort zone, and work on your personal action plans and this will help you to achieve the results you want. The all important questions are; what do you want, and how much do you want it?

Why can't I get the same support from my friends and family?

There are several reasons for this. Friends and family may not be trained in the listening and questioning techniques required, as well as a whole host of other areas that are connected with working on a persons personal development. Even if you have some friends or family members that are trained in these areas, there are a number of conflicts and complications involved that can make it professionally unethical to actually work with family and friends.

It may be that you have reasons why you prefer not to share some things with your friends, or it may even be that your friends are part of what you would like to change.

Finally, friends and family often have fixed ideas and expectations about us. Many people are uncomfortable with changing circumstances and they can get quite upset if the change is occurring to a close friend or family member. They can be left feeling unsure where they will fit into the new arrangements and this can leave them feeling that they are being forced into a new situation without any control over it.

My training and expertise will ensure that I am not going to lose patience or become bored and I will be open, straight, and up front with you at all times. I have a BSc. Honours degree in Psychology and also hold Diplomas in Counselling and Life Coaching so you will receive a professional service. With almost a decade of experience dealing with the complex issues surrounding victims of crime, I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in motivating, encouraging, and empowering people to move forward in their lives.

As you may have read on the ‘meet your coach ‘ page, my C.V. is very extensive and extremely varied. I have jokingly been nick named ‘the eternal student’ as I am always looking for the next training course that I can get involved in. This means that my range of skills and abilities, which I have fined tuned along the way, is very diverse and I am now in a position to pass them on to you.

I would like to have life coaching so what do I do now?

1. Book a 20 minute telephone consultation free, sit back, relax and ask me all your questions about coaching and how it is going to benefit you the most.

 2. Choose between telephone coaching or face-to-face, (if within 20 miles of Wirral, Merseyside). If coaching is by telephone then make sure you are in a private place and you are not going to be disturbed. Face-to-face meetings will take place in an office venue (to be arranged) or a good quality venue or hotel lounge (without music if possible) where we can relax with a tea/coffee, be comfortable, private and left alone.

 3. Your first booked session will be a 1½ hour journey of discovery where we will explore what improvements you want to make in your life, what specific goals you have, what or who may try to stop you, and how to succeed in your plans. During this session I will also ask you for some administration details for my own private filing system, and we will finish off by designing a coaching programme that is completely unique to you.
